We live in an incredibly fast-paced world — just about everyone on call via mobile phones and/or social media. Taking time to reflect is a bit of a lost art. Most of us, unfortunately, are living unexamined lives.

Self-Reflection is diving deep into your thoughts, and emotions determining the ‘why’ behind them. Taking the time to think about, evaluate, and give serious thought to your behaviors, thoughts, attitudes, desires, and motivations. This helps you see where you are heading and determine whether you are happy with the direction, make the necessary adjustments, and evaluate your response to any particular circumstance and event.

Here are 10 questions that will assist you in reflecting on yourself.

1. What do I like most about myself?

We always look at ourselves through a negative eye. So we rarely think of why we should be proud of ourselves. Reflect on your personality and successes.

Identify and understand your fears in life. It is the first step in battling your fears. This also helps us to realize our priorities. After you have figured out what you’re scared of, then you can focus your energy exactly where you’re supposed to.

3. Am I happy?

This is a fundamental question. If you have mixed feelings about yourself, then focus on work, relationships, and family separately. Then ask yourself if you’re happy considering each area individually. If you’re not happy, then it’s high time for a change.

4. Am I true to myself or just trying to satisfy other people?

You need to ask yourself if you’re true to yourself or if you’re a people pleaser. If you are a people-pleaser, then are you happy with it, or is it possible that you’re letting yourself be walked over? Your goal in life should be remaining true to yourself, not satisfying other people.

5. Is there a higher power?

Question yourself as to whether you believe in something bigger and important than us all. It will help you to realize your basic values and beliefs.

6. Who do you trust with your life?

This is a rather important question. It is important to know who you trust with your life and those you don’t trust. It can be your family members, friends, partner, or even someone else. 

7. What do you do when feeling sad to lift your spirits?

When life gets us down, the way we deal with it shows us who we are. It can be listening to songs or even going for a drive.

8. If you had all the money on earth, what would you do?

Are you money-oriented or not? This says a lot about yourself.

9. What question would you ask to learn about your future?

What would you like to know if you could ask a fortune teller about how your life will look in the future? This will clearly indicate your priorities.

10. What is your biggest secret? 

Everyone has a secret hidden deep inside them. This secret, whether it be tiny or huge, will reveal so much about you. 

Exercising self-reflection takes discipline and intentionality. 

It requires intervals on the chaos of life and taking the time to ponder and think about your life, which is not easy to do, yet it is an incredibly valuable practice.
